Prof. Pedro Amador Muñoz Barrajón and Fr. Prof. Waldemar Graczyk following the signing of the agreement.

The new agreement marks another stage in the developing cooperation between the two universities. Its scope primarily includes conducting joint research and academic projects, co-organising conferences, seminars and academic meetings, participation of researchers from both universities in international events, publication of research results, academic staff exchanges and research stays.

“For UKSW, internationalisation is not merely a matter of the number of agreements signed, but above all of building lasting relationships between members of the academic community and creating opportunities for joint research. Università Europea di Roma is a particularly valuable partner for us – a university with which we share not only an interest in specific areas of research, but also a similar understanding of the university’s mission and the responsibility of science towards individuals and society.

We want the agreement signed today to quickly translate into concrete projects, mobility opportunities and joint publications. The agreement is the result of cooperation initiated by our staff members and is therefore an example of individual cooperation bringing institutional benefits. We must continue to support and encourage such initiatives,” emphasised Fr. Prof. Ryszard Czekalski, Rector of UKSW.

Cooperation between UKSW and the Rome-based university has already been developing in recent months through contacts between academics and staff members of both institutions, as well as through academic mobility. At UER’s initiative, one of UKSW’s first Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) was implemented, coordinated by the International Relations Office in cooperation with Prof. Aleksandra Syryt from the Faculty of Law and Administration at UKSW and Prof. Renata Salvarani.

The newly signed agreement provides a broader institutional framework for these activities and enables their long-term development.

As Fr. Prof. Waldemar Graczyk, Vice-Rector of UKSW for Research and International Cooperation, points out, the opportunity to establish joint research teams is of particular importance.

“A university becomes truly international when cooperation goes beyond occasional visits and leads to jointly formulated research questions. This is precisely the potential I see in our relationship with Università Europea di Roma. We want to support direct cooperation between researchers, the exchange of experience, research stays and projects involving early-career researchers.

Rome and Warsaw can become two important points within the same academic space, where different academic traditions meet while the pursuit of truth and service to humanity remain shared values,” said Fr. Prof. Waldemar Graczyk.

The agreement also provides for the possibility for units of both universities to develop detailed cooperation programmes defining the subject matter of joint initiatives, schedules of activities, arrangements for staff and student exchanges, and methods of financing individual initiatives. The agreement has been concluded for a period of five years, with the possibility of extension.

From left: Dr Bartłomiej Dźwigała, Director Aleksandra Zając, Dr Anna Głusiuk, Fr.
