Piotr Sieniawski, PhD from the Institute of Political Science and Administration conducted guest lectures in Albania at the University of New York in Tirana as Part of the Erasmus+ KA171 Programme

Between June 5 and 9, 2025, Piotr Sieniawski, PhD from the Institute of Political Science and Administration at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw (UKSW) participated in a teaching mobility at the University of New York in Tirana (UNYT), Albania, under the Erasmus+ KA171 programme. UNYT is the oldest and most prestigious private university in Albania, often referred to as the “Harvard of the Balkans.”

During his stay, PhD Sieniawski conducted a series of lectures focused on the recognition of states, secession, and unrecognized entities. A particular emphasis was placed on the case of Kosovo, which remains unrecognized by five EU member states. The lectures also addressed the responses of international organizations to the emergence of new states, as well as issues related to the integration of the Western Balkan countries into the European Union.

PhD Sieniawski also presented his monograph entitled „De Facto States in the Post-Soviet Space”, engaging in a lively discussion with students and faculty members, who posed numerous questions about both Kosovo and unrecognized states in the post-Soviet region.

As part of the visit, meetings were also held with representatives of the University of New York in Tirana to discuss further academic cooperation, including opportunities for student and faculty mobility. The visit contributed to strengthening the partnership between UKSW in Warsaw and UNYT in Tirana and marked the beginning of new academic initiatives planned for the near future.
