Visit of Prof. Gela Tsaava from Sokhumi State University in Tbilisi (Georgia) under the framework of Erasmus+ KA171 Programme

Between May 12 and 16, 2025, the Institute of Political Science and Administration at Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw (UKSW) hosted PhD Gela Tsaava from Sokhumi State University in Tbilisi, Georgia, as part of the Erasmus+ KA171 programme. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen academic cooperation and facilitate the exchange of teaching and research experience.

Sokhumi State University, currently operating in exile in Tbilisi, relocated from Sokhumi due to the conflict in Abkhazia. PhD Tsaava’s visit provided an opportunity to deepen relations between our institutions and to exchange insights on the current socio-political challenges in the Caucasus region.

The guest was welcomed by Prof. Anna Skolimowska, Director of the Institute of Political Science and Administration, and PhD Piotr Sieniawski, Erasmus+ KA171 coordinator at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences. During the meeting, the parties discussed ongoing cooperation and explored the potential for joint projects and future academic initiatives.

As part of the visit, PhD Tsaava delivered a series of lectures: “Recent Developments in Georgia and the EU Integration Process”, focusing on Georgia’s current political situation and its prospects for European integration, and “Georgian-Abkhaz Peace Process”, which addressed the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict and the possibilities for peaceful resolution.

The lectures attracted considerable interest from both students and faculty. We sincerely thank PhD Tsaava for his inspiring presentations and look forward to future joint initiatives.
