ECO-ACT EAST AFRICAN-EUROPEAN VIRTUAL EXCHANGE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION AND CLIMATE ACTION

1) Encourage intercultural dialogue with third countries not associated to the Programme and increase tolerance through online people-to-people interactions: our project will expose students to diverse perspectives on climate change through a joint EU-EA VE programme, enable semi-structured online discussions on urgent climate change issues through webinars, and facilitate collaborative online projects, making students resolve an environmental/climate challenge in small international groups.

2) Promote various types of virtual exchanges as a complement to Erasmus+ physical mobility: our project will provide students with valuable international experiences by offering online video lectures and webinars, led by professors from the EU and EA regions. Additionally, students will engage in Call: ERASMUS-EDU-2024-VIRT-EXCH — Virtual exchanges in higher education and youth collaborative projects that connect peers from 4 EA and 2 EU countries, fostering cross-cultural learning.

3) Enhance critical thinking, digital and soft skills development of students: collaborative online

international projects that will be done by students promote the development of 21st-century skills, incl. critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, teamwork, intercultural understanding, and digital literacy.

4) Promote citizenship and the common values of freedom, tolerance and non-discrimination through education: our project will promote citizenship among the students by fostering behavioural change

towards more environmentally friendly and climate neutral practices that students would potentially internalize through experiential learning and transfer to their local community.

Primary beneficiaries: The primary beneficiaries of this project are students aged 18-30 and staff in the partner HEIs. The students and staff will be selected across various disciplines regardless of their gender. The project will address inclusion and diversity by involving students from vulnerable backgrounds who have limited opportunities to participate in physical mobility programmes.

Secondary beneficiaries: Our project will also benefit students and staff from other HEIs in Europe, Africa and the rest of the world, who are interested in the field of environment and climate change. The project will also benefit policy makers and other organizations involved in environmental conservation and fight against climate change. The developed materials (modules, video lectures, downloadable learning resources, policy briefs and published academic papers) will be deposited in the project website in open access and will be available for use by policy makers, researchers, among others.
