As part of the ECO-ACT: East African-European Virtual Exchange for Environmental Conservation and Climate Action, coordinated by Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw (UKSW), the WP2 Needs Assessment Report has been developed. This report provides a key foundation for designing an innovative Virtual Exchange programme.
The report was created through close collaboration among all project partners and offers a comprehensive analysis of the needs of students, academic staff, and policymakers in climate education across Europe and Africa. The assessment includes:
– a review of existing climate-related curricula,
– student surveys identifying knowledge, skills, and interests,
– staff interviews to validate educational priorities,
– analysis of literature and best practices in sustainability education.
The findings highlight both the strengths of partner institutions and areas that require reinforcement, such as digital skills, climate governance, climate finance, climate justice, and practical application of solutions. The report also reveals strong student interest in further learning and showcases innovative teaching practices that can serve as inspiration for other institutions.
The Needs Assessment Report lays the groundwork for the next steps of the project: developing the course syllabus, conducting stakeholder workshops, and preparing educational video materials, all forming the Virtual Exchange programme. This programme aims to strengthen students’ digital, technical, research, and cross-cultural competencies, preparing them for effective climate action at both local and global levels.
As the project coordinator, UKSW oversees all project activities, ensuring the coherence of results and the high quality of educational materials produced.
