Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw has received funding for the implementation of the ERMA (European Research Management Academy) project under the Horizon Europe programme. The project has been awarded a total budget of EUR 2,000,000 and will be carried out over a period of 36 months as a Coordination and Support Action.
The objective of the ERMA project is to strengthen the competencies, professionalisation, and recognition of research management staff within the European Research Area. The project aligns with the European Research Area (ERA) Policy Agenda, in particular ERA Action 17, which focuses on developing institutional capacities and building coherent career pathways in research management.
As part of the project, a European knowledge hub for research management will be established—an open, online platform functioning as a “one-stop shop” for research managers. The platform will enable the development of international partnerships in joint research and publications, facilitate the exchange of best practices, support the growth of the research management community, and provide access to high-quality training, educational resources, as well as tools supporting career planning and academic mobility across Europe.
The project also includes the development and implementation of innovative career development services based on the European Competence Framework for Research Managers. These will include tools for self-assessment of competencies, identification of skills gaps, and recommendations for career development paths and available training opportunities. The solutions developed within the project may in the future be integrated with European platforms such as EURAXESS or the ERA Talent Platform.
An important component of ERMA is also raising awareness among institutional and policy decision-makers, particularly in Widening countries (aimed at broadening participation in European programmes), regarding the importance of professional research management for research quality, innovation, and the effective functioning of scientific institutions. The project will result, among others, in policy recommendations, a guide to institutional best practices, and a policy brief supporting the further development of public policies in this area.
The target groups of the project include current and future research managers, academic staff at universities and research institutions involved in management tasks, educational institutions, as well as decision-makers and stakeholders within the European research and innovation system.
The ERMA project strengthens the international position of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw within the European research and innovation ecosystem and aligns with the university’s strategic activities aimed at developing institutional capacities and contributing to the shaping of the European Research Area.
