The UKSW Welcome Centre warmly invites academic staff to participate in the Intercultural Competence Workshops, which will be held on two dates: Wednesday, November 13, and Wednesday, November 20, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, at the UKSW Campus, Dewajtis 5, Room 322.
The workshops will be conducted by experts in intercultural psychology, Prof. dr hab. Magdalena Żemojtel-Piotrowska and dr hab. Jarosław Piotrowski, Associate Professor.
During the sessions, participants will explore a range of topics. These include diagnosing cultural types and dimensions, with insights from Hofstede’s classic model, Minkov-Kaasa’s revisions, the GLOBE project, and Schwartz and Inglehart’s cultural values typology, as well as their implications for measuring social development. Participants will also delve into how culture shapes self-perception and communication, examining the differences between interdependent and independent self-concepts and their impact on cognition, motivation, and emotions within social relationships.
The workshops will also cover the process of acculturation, addressing the psychological effects and diagnostic methods for adjusting to new cultures. Additionally, the sessions will tackle stereotypes and prejudices, offering practical guidance for working effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, with a particular focus on challenges encountered in supporting international students.
